No options? Who says? We always have options. One of the biggest leadership cop-outs I know is when leaders take the stand that we have no choice. You always have a choice. You can choose to exercise leadership, which is what you’re paid for anyway. You can choose to let someone more capable than yourself handle the mess you started or which you allowed to happen. You can get a consultant to help sort you out. Or you can resign in disgrace and someone else will take over. Hopefully, the toxins generated by you won’t kill the capable person until he or she manages to bring some order into chaos.

So, Lead, Follow or just simply get out of the way. If you find yourself balking at all three, at least get someone to help you sort it out! Remember – we ALWAYS have options. It is simply what we choose to exercise more.
