On 13 Jan 2011, deep in the nether regions of NTUC Foodfare, Level 3 Ang Mo Kio Hub, I became guilty of a serious felony known as Inattentiveness.

I was having a lunch appointment with a business associate and allowed myself to be distracted by a few text messages on my mobile phone. My business associate didn’t seem to mind, and I wasn’t conscious of my bad attitude, resulting in my bad behaviour, toward him. We finished our lunch appointment pleasantly and went our separate ways.

It was only after some reflection that I realized just how Inattentive I had been. It was a really good reminder for me to be present when I’m present. People deserve our undivided attention when we are engaged with them. If we can’t be present at that time, schedule another time.
