One Way Ticket…To The Planet Mars…

I saw some news online today that reminded me to get the message out – when the majority of the planet is in dire need of help, should we be wasting resources on our own selfish fancies? The news reported that a Dutch reality show was seeking volunteers for a one-way trip to Mars. If you understand what that means, you would understand the scale of resources required just to get the astronauts there, not to mention trying to even sustain life on Mars for any reasonable period of time! I’m not saying that we shouldn’t aspire towards greatness, but to consider wisely at what cost, and is this an appropriate time to do it?

Helliconia

In the science fiction series Helliconia, by Brian Aldiss, published during the early 1980s, inhabitants of the space station Avernus can win what they call a “Helliconia holiday”, living out their fantasies on the planet Helliconia before succumbing to the ever-present helico virus. Both Earth and the Avernus descend into debauchery in like manner to William Golding’s “Lord of the Flies”.

So, remember, even as we aspire to be and to do all that we have been designed to, let us first of all extend help to those around us. There is no better way than to increase our own value and increase value in others.
