Well Connected? How United?

Henry Kissinger has died at age 100. Many will remember him as the most well-connected person on the face of the earth. George Friedman of Geopolitical Futures and Niall Ferguson, author of “The Square and the Tower” seem to think so. Henry Kissinger’s attractiveness was his ability to get you access to power and influence so you could get what you wanted. People would often ignore the fact that you could get power and influence to move your desired mountain closer to you, but at a price you often found out was way too high for you. But that is how people are. And so networking events, private cocktail parties and so forth will continue to be thronged by predators unwilling to think of themselves as prey.

Of course it is important to be as well-connected as possible, within reason. If nothing else, relationships ought to be based on mutual respect. If one were able to throw in Love as well as Respect into the relationship, then it moves things upwards as well. Greater chances of success, higher risks of being replaced by the ever-jaundiced jealous.

I propose we expand our notion of “Connectedness” to include, indeed, be based on, being “United”. Uniformity is not being United, it can be a small manifestation that we are indeed, United, but Uniformity is not necessarily Unity. If we are United, we may not appear to be as well-connected as others, but we will be connected to those we WANT to be connected to, and those others WANT to be connected to us. To share the same values and joyfully express those shared values in our lives and businesses.

Just a small thought to share with you. Would you like to get United with your circle, and you think you would like me to be a part of that? Then get in touch! You’re welcome!
