Artificial Intelligence, or Appreciative Inquiry?

It is always refreshing to talk to people who actually seem to know what they’re talking about. So distinct from people just shooting their mouths off or running with the first slogan that feeds their deepest fears. A computer scientist was telling me that AI as in Artificial Intelligence was merely a tool and not a newfound sentient being. That instantly set me off and I quipped “AI for Artificial Intelligence or AI for Appreciative Inquiry?” Which at least drew some form of a chuckle.

Use AI in the spirit of AI. That is, use Artificial Intelligence in the spirit of Appreciative Inquiry. Stop falling for the idiocies abounding on the net or on whatever echochambers you lurk in most of your wasted life. Morris West did say that the problem with the high place is that you don’t know whether the voice you hear is the voice of God or the echo of your own mad shouting. I agree with him, if indeed he did say that. Get off the high place and recognize that we are here on earth and God is in Heaven, so let our words be few. When we stop pretending that we are in the high place, we can truly use AI in the spirit of AI. Tremendous progress in scientific knowledge leading to lifesaving applications has already been made. One example is that of AI predicting the existence of perhaps more than 200 proteins involved in the absolutely vital process of DNA lesion repair. Another is the demolition of “privacy” due to the ubiquitous use of sensors and predictive analytics. Why are we so worried about “privacy” if we conduct ourselves according to whatsoever is true, right and just? Do we not understand that God sees everything and knows the thoughts and intents of our hearts?

So, the next time you hear something about AI, remember that AI is for Appreciative Inquiry, and make the most of that tool.

You’re welcome!
